Spring time in New York City. I was thirsting for green in a major way and decided to make the storm drains bloom.   My dear friend was attending an economics course nearby, and I had some time to kill.  This is what happened.

The largest of the three chalk flowers/mandalas. I enjoy how the circular patten echoes the bursting golden clock on the building’s side.

And did yours truly PLAN this artistic endeavor and come prepared with chalk in hand? Why, of course not!!!! I happened to observe some high school kids drawing  the word ‘Love’ in giant letters and asked if I could have some chalk. They were happy to share :) Above, an exhausted conspirator collapsed inside the ‘O’.

The smallest of the three flowers. Most water seepage.

Pleased as punch in my new kicks. It was the metal grates that first inspired the project, as I thought they resembled the center of a sunflower.

There I am with Mr. Medium size. The centers of the leaves on this one remind me of wheat or braided bread.

Posing with the most elaborate flower (same from top of page). You can see the high school students working away in he background. Overall, an afternoon well spent!

Gotta say, I really dig creating in public spaces! I was really energized by all the passing people.
